Make words in groups

Today we are talking a little about vocabulary

.

I present you today 3 main ways to make words in groups so as

not to forget them and to use them more powerfully

First of all you should have a certain notebook for English (new

 words and expressions) in which you should gather all new words as the following

1-

keep words which have the same meanings (and their opposites) together

for example

If i ask you: What does the word (happen) mean? You should know a synonym in English  (a word has the same meaning)g

When u open your dictionary, u will know that happen means

take place or occur


(happen =take place= occur)

If you don't know a synonym, you should explain the meaning  in English as much as u can

.

Another example: the word (airport) you are likely know the meaning, but you don't know a synonym. So try to explain it in

your way in English

.Airport is the place where planes take off and lands

and so on

another example

advantage = merit

disadvantage = demerit

Whenever you remember one word of this group, you should remember the other three words

and so on

2- Keeping words wich have similar spelling and pronunciation

There are many words have similar spelling or pronunciation. However, they have a completely different meanings. so we should keep them together to know the difference between them.

For example

plan

plane
 

plain

 

 

The first word means a scedule to achieve a goal, and the letter a is pronounced like (cat)t

 

 

The second word means the method of transport which flies in the sky

 

 

and the letter a is pronouned like (make)e

 

 

the third word means paved land (geographically) and the letter a is pronounced too like (make) and we

differentiate by the context

 

another example

   

hear - here

 

her -hair

 

 

 

The first two words are pronounced the same but hear means to recieve sounds and voices by ear and here is the opposite of there

 

 

 

Also the second two words are pronounced the same, but her is a pocessive adjective (like her bag) but hair is a part of your body on your head

 

and so on

 

 

 

3- Keeping words which are related to the same topic

 

 

Like:

 

 Mesns of transport, jobs, body parts and so on

 

 

You may draw a circle in the center of your page and make

 many arrows come out from this circle into smaller circles. Write (BODY) inside the big circle  and in the smaler circles write new body parts you want to keep (head, arm, leg and so on)n

I'd like to talk with you now about some points of learning languages (any language in general)

1- The aim of any language is to recieve a message andd to send a message. if u do these two processes u know this langauge. okay?

2- Recieving messages is more important than sending messages. if you recieve a message wrongly, you will send a wrong message in return.

for example: if someone asks you about the way to the railway station, and you did not get what (railway) is, you will not give him a right answer and may send him to another place :-)

3- So, listening is a very important method to evaluate your level in the language you are studying. (listening is language)

4- You should always have a pocket dictionary. All the time you may face some words you don't know. (perhaps you have read some words now which you don't know. :-) It's just ok. Just look it up in your pocket dictionary. Or use this wounderful site www.wordreference.com choose the languae you would like to translate into.

5- Also, you have to have an English-english dictionary. you should practice to know the meaning of some English words in English. It's a very good practice to recieve messages.

6- you have to keep words in English in a special way. And this is the topic of our new post.
